Privacy Policy
Effective Date: September 26, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Local Dice ("the App") uses, where it goes, and why. Local Dice is made by an independent developer, Kevin Cureton. The short version: there are no accounts, ads, analytics, or tracking, and your dice rolls travel directly between nearby devices instead of through a server. To connect to nearby devices securely, the App does send a small amount of technical information to online services. This policy describes exactly what that is.
1. What Local Dice Does Not Collect
- No account, email address, phone number, or real name. The App gives you a randomly generated display name, like "Player 3D9F2A".
- No location data.
- No analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs. The App does not use Apple's advertising identifier and does not track you across other apps or websites.
- Your information is never sold, rented, or shared for advertising.
2. Information Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following on your device: your display name, a random device ID (see Section 4), your saved dice roll configurations, your dice color and background preferences, your other settings, and recent dice rolls and dice tables. Deleting the App removes this information from your device.
3. Information Shared with Nearby Devices
While the App is running, it shares information directly with nearby devices that are also running Local Dice. This happens device to device over Bluetooth and peer-to-peer Wi-Fi, or over a local network you are connected to. It is not uploaded to any server. The information shared is:
- Your display name and your random device ID.
- Your dice rolls and their results, along with the dice tray color attached to each roll.
- Details of dice tables you open or join, such as the table name, the players at the table, and any names the table owner assigns to players.
Rolls made in the Public Square can be seen by anyone nearby who is using Local Dice. Rolls made at a private dice table are shown only to players who have joined that table. Older rolls and tables are removed from other devices automatically over time.
4. Information Sent Online to Set Up Secure Connections
Local Dice uses Ditto, a third-party data sync platform, to connect nearby devices. So that only genuine copies of the App can join your table, each device needs a security credential. The first time you open the App, and periodically after that when you are online, the App does the following:
- Local Dice authentication server: the App sends your random device ID and an Apple App Attest verification to the Local Dice authentication server, which is hosted on Cloudflare. The server checks that the request came from a genuine copy of the App and returns a credential. The server does not store this information, but Cloudflare may keep short-lived logs, including your device ID and IP address, for security and troubleshooting.
- Apple App Attest: the App uses Apple's App Attest service on your device to produce that verification.
- Ditto: the App presents the credential to Ditto's cloud service, which confirms it with the Local Dice authentication server. Ditto receives the credential, which contains your device ID, and standard connection information such as your IP address. Your dice rolls, display name, and table information are configured to sync only between nearby devices and are not uploaded to Ditto's cloud.
Your device ID is a random identifier the App creates the first time you open it. It is not tied to your name, your Apple Account, or your device's hardware, and a new one is created if you delete and reinstall the App.
5. iCloud Sync
The App can sync your saved dice roll configurations, dice colors, and background preferences to your other Apple devices using Apple's iCloud key-value storage. These options are on by default and can be turned off individually in Settings under iCloud Sync. When they are on, this information is stored in your personal iCloud account, and the developer cannot access it.
6. Purchases
Premium is a one-time purchase processed through Apple's App Store using StoreKit. Apple handles all payment processing, and the developer never receives or stores your payment details. The App checks your purchase status with Apple so Premium can unlock on each of your devices.
7. Customer Support
If you contact the developer for support, the information you choose to send, such as your email address, your message, or diagnostic logs you attach, is used only to answer your request. It is never sold, rented, or shared with third parties.
8. Third-Party Services
These services process limited information as described above, under their own privacy policies:
- Ditto: ditto.com/legal/privacy-policy
- Cloudflare: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
- Apple (App Attest, iCloud, and the App Store): apple.com/legal/privacy
9. Your Choices
- Turn off any of the iCloud Sync options in Settings to stop syncing that information.
- Delete the App to remove its information from your device. Your rolls and tables are removed from other devices automatically over time.
- Because the developer does not keep your information on any server, there is no stored profile to access or delete. If you have questions about your information, contact the developer through the support link on the App Store page.
10. Children
Local Dice is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. The App does not ask for personal information from anyone.
11. Changes to This Policy
If this Privacy Policy changes, for example when the App changes how it connects to other devices, the revised policy will be posted on this page with an updated Effective Date.
