Everyone at the table should be able to roll. Here's what Local Dice supports today on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and where it still falls short.
VoiceOver
✦Dice box: each die announces its type and how many you have selected, and VoiceOver speaks the new count every time you add or remove one. The box itself has a hint: "Tap to roll dice."
✦Roll results: every rolled die reads its value along with what happened to it: a critical hit, a reroll, an explosion, or a drop that isn't counted in the total.
✦Dice tray: each roll starts with its total and a summary of the dice, like "Total: 57, 1d4 + 1d6 + 3d20". Who rolled it is its own stop, so it's easy to skip past.
✦Saved rolls: the edit and delete buttons are labeled with the name of the roll they act on.
✦No sign-up: there are no accounts, passwords, or verification steps to get through before you can play.
Readable colors
✦Text and icons on the Dice Tray and Dice Box switch automatically between black and white based on the background color you pick. The app runs the WCAG contrast check, so a custom color can't make the labels unreadable.
✦Every die face, number, border, and badge color can be changed, so you can pick combinations that work for your eyes.
✦You can swap the textured table background for a solid color.
Display options
✦Bold Die Number makes rolled values heavier and easier to read.
✦Show Die Type Labels puts the die type (d6, d20, and so on) on each die, so you don't have to tell dice apart by shape.
✦Dice Per Row controls how many dice fit across the tray. Fewer per row means bigger dice and bigger numbers.
✦Animate Dice Rolls can be turned off to stop the tumbling animation.
✦Bold Die Number, Show Die Type Labels, Dice Per Row, and Animate Dice Rolls are in Settings under Dice Tray Customization and are part of Premium.
✦Reduce Motion works for everyone, free or Premium. When it's on in your device's accessibility settings, Local Dice skips the tumbling roll animation, whatever Animate Dice Rolls is set to.
Known gaps
✦Die numbers are sized by the Dice Per Row setting and don't yet follow the system text size.
✦Haptic feedback and sound effects for rolls aren't available yet.
